Looking and Feeling Your Best

Looking & Feeling Your Best

With spring approaching officially on March 20th, what’s a better time to work on improving you both on the inside and outside. We’re here to give you the insight on how to feel your best this spring.

Incorporate a healthy diet

Obviously, this is easier said than done but,  it really will improve the way you feel overall. Eat fresh greens, fruits and vegetables. Strive to become the healthiest version of yourself. Take this challenge day by day and it will really pay off in the long run.

Set intentions

Setting goals for yourself is crucial. Working for a new promotion? Trying to lose that last five pounds? Set a personal goal for yourself in order to achieve it. Don’t give up until you’ve reached it. Spring is also a time for renewal, so don’t be afraid to try new things or introduce a new intention into your life. Don’t wait until tomorrow- start now!

Get some fresh air!

Going outside for a walk and enjoying some breaths of fresh air is actually essential to our health. The air we breathe over and over again indoors for a long period of time is not supplying our bodies with the right amount of oxygen our bodies call for. Fresh air cleans out our lungs and brings oxygen to our cells. Increased oxygen brings clarity to the brain.  It provides more energy to our bodies, giving us assistance as that mid-afternoon tired feeling hits. Fresh air also improves digestion. Taking a small walk after you eat can actually aid in weight loss!

Meditate

Recently becoming more popular, meditation is a great way to improve your health and well-being. Meditation provides awareness and mindfulness, creating emotional control and concentration. It’s about being present: aware of the here and now. It also is a cure for anxiety when done correctly, quieting and creating stillness for one’s mind. Through more and more practice, you realize that you are more than just your thoughts and find a control over them.

Exercise

Exercising will not only make us look our best, it’ll make us feel happier as well. That’s a proven fact- it increases dopamine chemical levels in our brain. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that is necessary for the feelings of happiness and pleasure. This is why after you work out you’ll notice you feel a little perkier.

Exercising also has numerous health benefits other than losing weight. It will help ease those with increased anxiety and it will help fight insomnia for those who can’t sleep. Increasing your heart rate triggers a rush of hormonal changes that will bring you closer to feeling happier, healthier, and stress free.

What about your hair?

Have you ever left the house in a bad mood because of an unfortunately typical "bad hair day?" When you don't look your best, you don't feel your best. New ImageHair Clinic offers several solutions for clients that are unhappy with their current hair situation. Is it too thin or are you worried about your hairline? Check out their website at http://www.newimagehairclinic.com/ for more information.  New Image Hair Clinic helps people feel good by looking every day and may be able to help you too.

Common Reasons Women Lose Their Hair

For women, hair is more than just hair. It is a part of self-confidence. When it comes to a woman’s femininity, hair plays an important role for most people. It helps make women feel beautiful and young. As one ages, hair loss might take a toll on the self-confidence hair provides. It can be devastating, to say the least. Let’s take a look at a few types of female hair loss.

Trichotillomania

Playing or twirling with your hair is a habit that a lot of women exhibit. This habit can easily turn into Trichotillomania, a serious hair loss condition. It is the act of pulling out hair and often can be done without even realizing it. This hair loss type is self-inflicted and often is used as a stress or anxiety reliever.

Traction Alopecia

Do you wear your hair in a tight ponytail for hours on end? You could eventually end up with Traction Alopecia. Pulling hair over time with different kinds of tight hair-styles lead to the hair follicles experiencing trauma and they stop growing all together.

Alopecia Areata

Alopecia Areata is a hair loss condition that begins with one’s immune system. This occurs when one experiences an inflammatory reaction, causing one’s own immune system to disturb the roots of the hair follicles, causing hair loss.

Anagen Effluvium

Have you or a loved one experienced hair loss from chemotherapy? Chances are you are experiencing Anagen Effluvium, hair loss occurring when cellular-level mitotic or metabolic activity impairs the hair follicles. Therefore, chemotherapy targets the hair follicle cells while attempting to cease the rapidly dividing, cancer cells.

Androgenetic Alopecia

Women with this diagnosis experience thinning all around their scalp. It is caused due to the existence of androgens, which are male hormones. Hormones are unstable, causing rapid hair loss. Causes of rapid levels of androgen include birth control pills, pregnancy and menopause.

Female Hair Transplants at New Image

Are you experiencing noticeable hair loss and not sure what to do or who to speak to about it? Hair loss can be confusing and challenging for most, but the GOOD news is there are several solutions out there that can restore your hair. But, how do you chose which one is right for you and your hair/scalp condition?

New Image Hair Clinic offers SEVERAL solutions to slow the progression of hair loss and restore hair where it was lost. One of our technologically advanced treatment options is Hair Transplantation. Hair transplants offer natural looking results utilizing your own real growing hair, and is virtually pain free. Hair is simply taken from the back or sides of the head — genetically pre-determined not to fall out, and transplanted in the areas where you are experiencing thinning or complete loss. This results in new hair growth that may continue to grow for the rest of your life.

Two specific types of hair transplants are Follicular Unit Hair Transplantation (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE).

Follicular Unit Transplantation- This method, (FUT) also called the “strip method, allows the physician to fully utilize the scalp area to deliver results. It includes surgically removing a strip of scalp from the head and redistributing those follicles across the regions where one is experiencing hair loss. This method is fast which in turn requires fewer sessions. Though there will be a scar as a result of this procedure, the hair will look natural and evenly distributed.

Follicular Unit Extraction- This method (FUE) includes harvesting individual follicular units one-by-one from the donor area. Each follicle is then transplanted into the areas affected by hair loss. Though this method is more time-consuming, it will not leave a scar because it does not involve removing a strip from the scalp. The healing process is also quicker with the FUE method.

Hair transplantation is a great option for those seeking natural looking results with their own real growing hair, but it's not the right option for everyone. New Image offers several other alternatives to hair transplants to meet the needs of each client. Our other treatment options include Laser Hair Therapy, iHair Non-Surgical Hair Replacement, Folistrand Non-Surgical Hair Replacement, and more. The professionals at New Image Hair Clinic will be able to determine which solution is best for you and your hair type. Hats and Hair Loss – Myth or Fact?

Freezing temperatures and potential snowflakes in your hair calls for one thing this winter- a hat! But, have you ever heard the tale that wearing a hair will lead to hair loss? Seems plausible, although, experts agree that wearing a hat daily does not directly cause you to lose hair, rather, it may aid in hair loss for those who are already losing their hair due to a genetic predisposition. Whether you are genetically predisposed to hair loss or not, it's important to keep your hair healthy throughout the seasons. Let's take a look at a few steps that are essential to keeping your hair healthy this winter!

Lock the moisture in -

Wool hats can draw moisture away from your hair and cause friction. Take precautionary measures to keep your hair moisturized during the cooler months to avoid breakage. Use a deep conditioner weekly and a light moisturizer daily to keep those locks strong and healthy.

Minimize breakage -

No one wants breakage from the dryness! Instead of exposing your hair to the potentially harmful wool, line your hat with silk or satin. Some hats come pre-lined, or you can make it a DIY project! Lining your hat with silk or satin fabric will minimize breakage and loss of moisture. Another perk of a silk liner — no hat hair!

Hair Loss in Children

While we may not realize it, for most people hair plays an important part in our self-image and even our self-esteem. Hair loss can greatly increase negative feelings on how we see ourselves, especially for children who experience hair loss. While it may not seem as common as hair loss in adults, many children are affected by it. Hair loss in children is estimated to account for 3% of pediatrician visits and the vast majority of children suffering with hair loss do so because of the following conditions.

1.  Tinea capitis: This is the most common cause of hair loss in children. Tinea capitis also known as ringworm of the scalp is a fungal infection that attacks the hair and causes scaly, ring-like lesions to form. It can affect the hair on the scalp, eyebrows, and eyelashes. Children with tinea capitis will have patchy hair loss around the affected areas and broken off hairs that are visible just above the surface. This condition is easily transmitted through touch from one infected child to another and can easily be passed on by sharing combs, brushes, hats, barrettes, pillows and bath towels. You can typically diagnose tinea capitis just by its appearance on the scalp and it can be treated with antifungal medications, such as griseofulvin, and special shampoo for eight weeks.

2.  Alopecia Areata: Alopecia areata is when the hair suddenly start falling out in round or oval patches. These bald patches are completely smooth and they don’t show any signs of inflammation, scaling, or broken hairs. They can appear overnight or sometimes over a few days. This is a very rare condition that’s believed to occur when the child’s immune system suddenly attacks its own hair follicles. This condition affects about 1 in 1,000 children and there are no conclusive diagnostic tests for alopecia areata. It’s currently diagnosed through process of elimination of other hair loss causes and close examination of the bald spots. Alopecia areata cannot be cured but there are hair restoration solutions available at New Image Hair Clinic. Speak to a hair loss expert about your options at NewImageHairClinic.com

3.  Hair Shaft Trauma: Physical stress is another common cause of hair loss in children. Hair shaft trauma is caused by constant pulling of the hair from tight ponytails or braids and excessive friction, such as, rubbing against a pillow. Hair trauma can also be caused by chemical burns or Trichotillomania, a mental condition that causes people to obsessively pull out their hair. As long as the hair trauma was not severe or wasn’t done long enough to cause scarring, the hair should regrow when the trauma has stopped. If hair loss persists, contact a hair loss specialist such as New Image to discuss your options. New Image is proud to offer a variety of solutions to all hair loss situations.

4. Telogen effluvium: Telogen effluvium is another common cause of hair loss in children this is a condition that occurs when the hair cycle is interrupted. Typically, an individual’s hair follicle has a long growth phase, producing steadily growing hair for 2 to 6 years. After the growth phase hair follows a brief transitional phase for about 3 weeks, where the hair follicle shrinks. Than the hair goes into the resting phase, also known as the telogen phase, for about 3 months this is when the hair follicles lie dormant. In the final stage the old hair sheds and new hair continues to grow. When telogen effluvium occurs something happens to interrupt the normal hair cycle causing many or all your hair to be thrown into the telogen phase. Many different things can cause Telogen effluvium such as extremely high fevers, excess vitamin A, emotional stress such as the death of a loved one, severe injuries, and the use of certain prescription medication. There is no conclusive diagnostic test to accurately diagnose telogen effluvium but it is usually up to the experience of the physician to make the diagnosis. In children, once the stressful event is over, full hair growth usually occurs between six months and one year.

If your child is experiencing hair loss, call New Image Hair Clinic for a complimentary hair and scalp analysis to determine the cause and proper solution(s). Male vs. Female Pattern Baldness

Hair loss affects almost everyone, but the degree of hair loss and the cause is what differs from one individual to the next. One of the most common conditions that causes hair loss in both men and women is known as, Androgenetic alopecia. Although, both men and women can have alopecia, the pattern of balding looks completely different, hence male pattern baldness and female pattern baldness.

How Does Balding Begin?
Balding and hair loss occurs when the hair follicle shrinks over time, resulting in finer hair until eventually the follicle does not grow new hair. Even though there is no longer hair growing, the follicles remain alive which suggests the potential for new hair to grow with the help of hair restoration treatments.

Androgenetic alopecia can be genetic, a response to unbalanced hormones or a combination of both. Although, there are similarities in the ways that androgenetic alopecia affects men and women, we've highlighted some of the major differences.

Male vs. Female Alopecia:
In men, androgenetic alopecia is characterized by a specific pattern of receding hairline and thinning on the crown of the head. Often times it progresses to partial or complete baldness. Normally androgenetic alopecia, also called male pattern baldness, is diagnosed based on the appearance and pattern of hair loss.

Androgenetic alopecia usually has a very different effect on women. In female pattern baldness, the hair thins all over the scalp in no particular pattern although it is usually first noticed because of the widening of the center hair part. The front hairline usually remains unaffected. Also unlike male pattern baldness, androgenetic alopecia in women rarely leads to total or near total baldness.
The best treatments for hair loss for androgenic alopecia may differ among men and women. Men are typically better candidates for hair transplants because the hormone that affects hair loss usually doesn’t affect hair on the sides and back of the head. Therefore, those areas can be used as donor sites for hair transplants. In women, on the other hand, hair all over the head is unstable because there is no a distinct pattern of hair loss. But, some women are candidates for hair transplants and benefit greatly from that type of treatment. For those who are not hair transplant candidates, there are a number of other options to dramatically slow down the hair loss process and to stimulate strong, healthy hair.

New Image Hair Clinic offers all of the solutions for both male and female pattern baldness including surgical hair transplants, non-surgical hair replacement, and Laser Hair Therapy treatments.
